📣🚨 Your Tweets Make a Difference: Call Out the UNCDF and The 614 Group for Excluding Women

UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF)

Now this is interesting! On October 24, UNCDF tweeted out this promo for their Financial Health of Gig Workers discussion. As you can see, the only comments made on the post call out the manel of 5 men and demand to know where the women are. Then, they tweeted this promo on October 26, swapping out one of the men for a woman (although it’s unclear if she’s playing the same role as the men, and it seems like she may just be providing an introduction).

While there’s no comment from UNCDF on whether the comments initiated the change, one has to assume they had something to do with the cosmetic switch. (H/T @sophiaahmed)

The 614 Group

We can only hope that The 614 Group also has second thoughts about its  Virtual Brand Safety Summit New York. The description of this conference reads: “As the digital advertising industry undergoes rapid transformation, the Virtual Brand Safety Summit New York will take a look at the most critical challenges and opportunities that have emerged for industry executives in this truly different year.” Given the fact that 74% of the speakers are men and only 26% are women, we have a hard time believing that The 614 Group is truly interested in solutions to those challenges or providing opportunities for anyone other than (primarily white) men. UNCDF and The 614 Group can and must do better. Let’s tell them!

No matter the industry, leaving women off the speaker list or minimizing their presence means only half the expertise gets shared. Let’s join @sophiaahmed and @keano81 in letting @UNCDFdigital and @614group know they need to include women. #GenderAvenger https://www.genderavenger.com/blog/call-out-uncdf-and-614-group
