Women scientists' voices aren't as loud during this pandemic. A Wisconsin epidemiologist and her 'nerdy girls' want to change that.”:

[Malia Jones] knew she couldn't deal with the overwhelming amount of questions alone. So she enlisted Alison Buttenheim, associate professor of nursing and health policy at the University of Pennsylvania and a friend from graduate school, to help her get the message across.

When they started sharing information, first on Instagram and then on Facebook, someone left a comment for them: "I'm just going to listen to whatever those nerdy girls say."

Thus, Jones and Buttenheim set about recruiting still more "nerdy girls" to translate the barrage of COVID-19 news into regular-people speak.
