Oh boy! We love it when our community gets fired up! Check out this email GenderAvenger Elisa Camahort Page sent to The Brookings Institute about the manel at their β€œHow Hate And Harassment In Online Gaming Influence Civic Life” event.

Elisa Camahort Page

β€œThe fact that you would hold a panel about hate and harassment in online gaming with an all-male panel is infuriating and so clueless. Gamergate, anyone? Do you all really not know how women are targeted in these spaces, and how Gamergate was a red flag for everything this country is going through now. Did you really not consider that there are women experts on this you could have secured (moderator aside) from both an analysis and lived experience point of view.

I am unsubbing from you at this point because this makes me so angry that it destroys much of the respect I had for your organization.”

We whole-heartedly agree, and we commend Ms. Camahort Page for walking her talk and unsubscribing from an organization she previously respected. Can you imagine the change that would happen if we all did the same, unsubscribed or left organizations that do not respect, or strive for, gender equality?

Maybe Brookings needs to hear from all of us:

I’m joining @ElisaC and @GenderAvenger in calling out @BrookingsInst for assembling a #manel to discuss harassment in gaming, effectively erasing the voices of women who continue to suffer unconscionable abuse. #GenderAvenger #GamingCivility https://www.genderavenger.com/blog/brookings-institute-manel-harassment-online-gaming
