Avenger of the Week | Annie Rose Goldman

As soon as we saw this story, we knew that Annie Rose Goldman had to be our Avenger of the Week. Annie, eight years old at the time with the help of her mom (and Twitter), challenged Hasbro on why they did not include a Rey figurine in their Star Wars: A Force Awakens Monopoly set. As Annie so eloquently wrote, “Without her, THERE IS NO FORCE AWAKENS! It awakens in her!”

In a Chicago Now post, Annie’s mom Carrie wrote, “We ask these questions about why Rey is missing from Star Wars Monopoly, because we recognize that Star Wars has created a kickass heroine who embodies everything that we admire and aspire to be, and we want to celebrate her with our children as we play and imagine and create new stories.”

Hasbro did respond to Annie:

Their explanation still didn’t feel quite right, though, so she came up with a temporary solution for people who had already purchased the game. Game owners could contact Hasbro to send them a free Rey figurine for their game.

But Annie and her mom didn’t stop there. After months of continuous press, social media posts and public outcry, they got their wish. As of this week, Rey is now included as one of the primary game pieces in all of the Star Wars: A Force Awakens Monopoly sets.

And Annie is so glad.
