Action Alert | TechCrunch Disrupt San Francisco 2018 Moving in the Wrong Direction

Let’s take a little walk down memory lane, shall we?

In 2014, we called out TechCrunch because only 14% of the speakers at their Disrupt San Francisco conference were women. In 2015, that percentage rose to 28%, and in 2016 we celebrated them for reaching 34% (ah, the good old days). Last year, the number of women speaking came in at around 33%, and earlier this month, when their 2018 numbers were looking pretty good, we were even hopeful that they’d earn a Stamp of Approval!

Whelp, their speaker numbers for Disrupt SF 2018 currently sit at 64% men and 36% women (28% of whom are women of color). While we’re not still seeing the abysmal numbers of 2014, we are not impressed that the percentage of women speaking this year has gone down rather than up. Until next year, TechCruch Disrupt SF.

History shows there have never been enough women speaking at @TechCrunch Disrupt SF 2018 is no different. It’s time to end this and let women speak. #genderavenger https://www.genderavenger.com/blog/action-alert-techcrunch-disrupt-san-francisco-2018
