πŸ“£πŸš¨ Action Alert | National Bank of Belgium Excludes Women from Climate Conversations

The National Bank of Belgium International Conference 2020 on "Climate Change: Economic Impact and Challenges for Central Banks and the Financial System", hosted in partnership with Networking for Greening the Financial System (NGFS), begins this week, and attendees will be treated to talk after talk by men: 25 of the speakers are men, while only 3 are women, 1 of whom is a woman of color.* Ugh. There are additional women listed in the program β€” 6 of the 7 moderators are women β€” but as we already know and have written about, facilitating a conversation as a moderator is not the same as speaking as an expert.

Climate change affects all of us, as does the economy, so excluding representation of 50% of the population in the conversation means solutions for only half of us.

* One speaker’s gender could not be identified via online search

You can’t green a financial system without adequate numbers of women present. Come on.

πŸ“£πŸš¨ Only 11% women speakers, National Bank of Belgium (@NBB_BNB_FR) & @NGFS_? Women moderating panels isn’t the same as speaking as experts. Climate change conversations must include both men AND women so the solutions work for all of us. #GenderAvenger https://www.genderavenger.com/blog/action-alert-national-bank-belgium-excludes-women
